How to Take a SuperSelfie2016-06-01
Selfies are awesome. Whether it’s you and your mates in a group hug, showing your beautiful, confident smile to the world or even celebrating being somewhere awesome, selfies are about being SuperHappy. Selfies are so awesome that even the word ‘selfie’ was the Oxford Dictionaries’ Word of the Year in 2013!
Not all selfies are created equal, however, and taking really cool selfies takes some practice. After all, selfies are photographs and some of the same rules apply that the pros use when shooting celebs. Here are a few nifty tricks to take your selfies to the next level.
Lights, camera, action
As with all photography, light is very important and can make a big difference. Play around with different types of light; a well-placed, shaded desk-lamp can create beautiful soft light indoors, or when you’re outside, see at what angles the sunlight looks best on your face. Whichever light you choose, make sure it shines onto your face from behind the camera, and not from behind you.
Just the right angle
Tilting your head slightly up and to the side is a great way to create interesting lines with your face. Our faces aren’t symmetrical, so most of us have a side that looks a little better on camera; our ‘best’ side. Find out which side is your ‘best’ side, then make it count. Angled shots are way more interesting than just plain old straight-up shots.
Move your shoulders
If you look at models on fashion shoots and celebs on the red carpet, you’ll often see them move their shoulders at a slight angle when someone is taking their picture. This creates a more interesting, slightly more flattering angle than standing with your shoulders parallel to the camera. Channel your inner celeb and play around with different shoulder angles to see what looks best.
Stick your neck out
Ok, not really. Extending your neck forward a little is another way to make your face look slimmer and accentuate your beautiful jawline. It will feel a little strange at first, but it’s a great way to look your best in a selfie. Shoot from above, it’s well-known trick to make your face look slimmer and more defined.
Selfie sticks are popular for a reason – they help you take even better shots. Don’t be afraid to use one, especially if you’re in a group or when you want to capture a beautiful background.
These are just a few simple tricks you can use to take SuperSelfies, but the most important tip of all? Have fun, pull faces, dress up, wear crazy hats, be silly, be serious, love your beautiful self, and be #SuperHappy!
