Smoor Mackerel


  • 1 x 425g Lucky Star Middelcut Mackerel
  • 2 x onions, sliced
  • 3 x tomatoes, diced
  • 3 x potatoes, diced
  • 1 x teaspoon garlic
  • 1 x teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mild curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric
  • 1 x tablespoon salted butter
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 x teaspoon ground coriander


Heat the oil and butter in a pan and saute the sliced onions and garlic until brown
Add the diced potatoes, ensuring not to burn them
Add the diced tomatoes, sugar, turmeric, curry powder and ground coriander
Simmer until the potatoes are cooked through and golden
Remove the Lucky Star Middlecut from the tin and drain
Remove the skin and mash the bones
Gently flake the mackerel and add to the potato mixture and heat through
Remove from the pan

Best enjoyed with

rice, pasta, toast, pap, samp OR just on it's own. Delicious!
